H&H Week –Co-Sponsoed by National Coalition for the Homeless and National Student Campaign Against Hunger & Homelessness, we participate every year in the National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week with numerous activities that raise awareness and educate others about hunger and homelessness in our community. It is held the week before Thanksgiving every year. Watch the calendar and for announcements on campus for ways of getting involved. National Pro-Life Cupcake Day – we bake and decorate several dozen cupcakes and hand them out for free on campus. This is part of the national movement for a non-threatening way to raise awareness and let people know that we believe that everyone should have a birthday! Youth Rally and March for Life – Every January we gather with other students around the state and travel to participate in the Rally and March that is held in Washington, DC. For more information visit http://www.marchforlife.org/
Taizé – We offer Taizé prayer services one to two times a semester. These are services of quiet music and meditation with candles and icons. To learn more about the international Taize community check out their website. To see a clip from our own prayer service check out our YouTube page
Service Opportunities – We offer a number of different options for service including food and clothing drives, helping local parishes with projects, and a winter service retreat to either Bethlehem Farm or Nazareth Farm.
Retreats – There are many retreat experiences that the Newman Center either directly offers or sends students to within the diocese and areas nearby. Keep an eye on the calendar and for flyers on campus for upcoming retreats. We try to offer at least 2 opportunities each semester.
